Copyright, Fair use, and Technology Implementation Issues

Copyright is when someone has
protection for their intellectual property. Having copyright means that person has full rights to use and distribute the copyrighted work.  If someone else wants to use all or some of the work, they must give proper attribution and/or have to pay the copyright owner. Fair use is a part of copyright and allows users, within reason, to copy materials for nonprofit educational purposes. This is mainly dependent on how the work is used and how much of the work is used. As a teacher, I would try to develop all of my own instructional material strictly based off of standards and try to use as little outside resources as possible. When necessary, I would try to rely on the textbook provided to my students for information and correctly site and paraphrase from it. I would encourage my students to try to create their own works without relying on the internet or textbooks. When necessary I would provide the needed sited materials for my students and give them the correct citations so they would not violate copyright and fair use guidelines.

Technology is an area that seems to continuously have issues inside and outside of the classroom. As technology grows, it creates many great opportunities for students to advance in their learning. However, it also allows for issues such as academic dishonesty and decreased productivity. Academic dishonestly can be prevented through systems such as honor lock and having testing proctored or on pen and paper. Technology has also led to decreased productivity in students. Many students believe that technology makes their lives easier and allows them to copy and paste and not have to do as much of the work. I think a good way around this is to have students complete assignments on paper and take a picture to submit! Another way around this problem is by creating in class assignments that have creative components that get students excited about learning and make them want to do the work!

Working on the newsletter assignment was surprisingly fun and introduced me to many new concepts that I was unfamiliar with. Word art, making a banner on Canva, and creating a end banner to come up with a t-shirt order form were all concepts that were new to me. In the future, I feel like I could improve my newsletter by learning about more techniques and creative aspects to make my design more appealing and fun to look at. The skills that I learned in this assignment can be used in my future as an SLP as I design worksheets for my kids and communication sheets to go home with parents.

Teacher pages are helpful resources that can be found on a school's website to get parents and student's information that is vital to success in the classroom. Many times, these pages have special logins that only parents and students have in order to maintain privacy in the classroom. While looking around for some different teacher pages, I found Chile's high school in Tallahassee's school website that has many helpful resources that teachers have for students. Publicly,  I could tell that this school has many different options for students when it comes to class pages and that teachers can use a variety of websites to relay information to their students. These websites, which are easily accessible from the school website, can be used in many ways for students to virtually learn, communicate, and study with their teacher outside of the classroom. Chile's High School class pages As a future educator, I can see myself incorporating a...

Before this class, I had never really used twitter. I was aware how twitter worked and had my friends show me funny tweets frequently but never thought about having a profile for myself. I haven't found twitter to be super beneficial, but it does provide some good humor from time to time. In my future career, twitter won't be a very helpful source to my students or my profession as I would like to be a speech pathologist. Unfortunately the digital divide is something that greatly affects students across the entire country and even the world. As many students do not have access to technology and as the world grows more dependent on technology, these students are falling behind. Due to this, I will need to fight for technological equality for my future students by introducing them to different  technology. This may be difficult, but if the work is put in I think I can be successful in advocating for them. Academic software can be a blessing and a curse in the classroom. Sometimes...

These past couple of weeks have been my first experiences using Diigo. I had never heard of this website before recently, and truthfully struggled in how to use the website. I like that the website allows you to easily find different links and save the ones you find useful to your library. I don't like Diigo for the set up of the site. The website is older looking and could use a facelift to make it modern and appealing to more current websites. Blogging has not been what I expected it to be. Before this class, I didn't know too much about blogs; I was not aware that blogs were customizable and that they can have different links that lead to different areas of the blog page. One of my favorite things about blogging is getting to customize each post to make it look 'cute'! However, I am not a huge fan of how each person with a blog can have them set up differently. Though unique touches are nice, sometimes it take...
