Before this class, I had never really used twitter. I was aware how twitter worked and had my friends show me funny tweets frequently but never thought about having a profile for myself. I haven't found twitter to be super beneficial, but it does provide some good humor from time to time. In my future career, twitter won't be a very helpful source to my students or my profession as I would like to be a speech pathologist.
Unfortunately the digital divide is something that greatly affects students across the entire country and even the world. As many students do not have access to technology and as the world grows more dependent on technology, these students are falling behind. Due to this, I will need to fight for technological equality for my future students by introducing them to different technology. This may be difficult, but if the work is put in I think I can be successful in advocating for them.
Academic software can be a blessing and a curse in the classroom. Sometimes it helps students to learn about certain subject areas, while other times students use technology for the wrong reasons and it proves to be a distraction. However, there are two software tools that I would like to implement in my classroom: academic calendars and gamification. I would like to use academic calendars to hold students responsible for their homework and classwork. It will also allow me to communicate with them on deadlines and expectations of my class. On the other hand, I would also like to use gamification. Today, students are obsessed with gaming more than ever. If I can combine learning with gaming, it will allow me to reach students in a new way by playing to their interests.
I think badges are a great way to represent technological skills for students. It also helps to give students who may not be academically advanced an opportunity to learn a skill that is important for some areas of the work force. Personally, I have not earned a badge before but I would love to get to know more about the topic and earn some badges for the future!
I think you can still find some useful resources in Twitter for speech pathologist. Please try to find people, organization, tools, etc. related to speech pathologist in Twitter.
