Introducing me

Hi! My name is Haley and this is my third year at FSU. I am passionate about working with children and hope to work in an educational setting one day. In my free time I love spending time with my family, finding new shoes to watch on Netflix, and reading a good book! I am taking this class in order to get a minor in education.

My prior experiences with technology in education include Microsoft and google primarily.  I have used excel sheets, powerpoint, word documents, and digital calendars. I have also had experience working in Canva to make presentations and flyers for classes.

To support my learning needs and goals, I frequently use the internet, my planner, and the library to help me in my educational endeavors. For specific academic classes I rely on textbooks, my professors, and google docs to help me accomplish my studying and retain information. For the majority of my classwork I find myself using online resources, even though I prefer to be offline because it helps me focus better. I would consider my personal learning network to be diverse because I am always changing what resources I am using to help me and each resource varies depending on the class.

  1. As PLN (Personal Learning Network) stands for, it is your "learning network" involving people, spaces, and tools. Therefore, think about online and offline spaces where you often connect with people and share/acquire resources for your learning. It could your academic PLN, teacher PLN, and PLN for your informal learning related to your hobbies. Do you follow any specific social media groups or organizations to share/acquire teaching resources such as information, knowledge, advice, and various materials and tools?

  2. Hey Haley! I think it is so cool you want to work with kids in an educational setting, I do too! Since you're minoring in education, what are you majoring in? Have a great semester!

I learned many new skills from creating a website for my future classroom. I enjoyed making a google calendar, which is something that I had never done before and found it to be something I can be using now! I really liked that I could make different pages for the various types of information I needed to include and found web design much easier than I had anticipated. I wasn't a fan that there wasn't a 'blank' design option, everything came with a template and all the features were not available to use through certain features which made the assignment a tad more difficult in terms of making the site as aesthetically appealing as I would have liked. Overall I was extremely please with how my site turned out and can't wait to make another web design in the near future!  My website Before taking educational technology, I had never heard of Diigo, so I was unsure what to expect and how to use the site. I chose to look at the second grade ELA technology standards. This means that the student should be able to write, alone or with peers, using multiple types of technology to create a story with the help of adults. If I were currently a teacher, I feel as though I could help my students achieve this standard. Microsoft Word, promethean boards, and online story book creators are areas that I am well versed in and can be used to achieve this standard. These kinds of technology are some that I have used for many years, since I was in elementary school. Having these past experiences have prepared me for not only this class, but if I had to teach others as well. After looking over the Cpalms website, I found so many interesting ideas and resources that I could use for my future classroom. I appreciated how the website was organized by grade level then subject, with subsections of the tools within each subject. I p...
