I chose to look at the second grade ELA technology standards. This means that the student should be able to write, alone or with peers, using multiple types of technology to create a story with the help of adults. If I were currently a teacher, I feel as though I could help my students achieve this standard. Microsoft Word, promethean boards, and online story book creators are areas that I am well versed in and can be used to achieve this standard. These kinds of technology are some that I have used for many years, since I was in elementary school. Having these past experiences have prepared me for not only this class, but if I had to teach others as well.

After looking over the Cpalms website, I found so many interesting ideas and resources that I could use for my future classroom. I appreciated how the website was organized by grade level then subject, with subsections of the tools within each subject. I particularly enjoyed combing through the resources for fourth grade ELA. One lesson plan that I think would be fun to use in my own classroom would be Seminole Doll Making. I liked how this activity incorporated not only ELA, but social studies and visual arts as well. This lesson plan would be so beneficial to Florida students to help them become more culturally aware of their environment. I believe as teachers it is important that we are teaching our student about information that can benefit them inside and outside of the classroom.

As a teacher, it is important to be a proficient internet searcher to help in gaining answers to questions faster and being more successful in learning about new technological advances. Since standards, technology, and things in the classroom are always changing, being a proficient internet searcher helps in staying on tops of everything that one must know. Out of all the internet searching skills that were introduced this week, I think that I would use most is reverse image searches. I have heard about this before but have never known how to do this. Now that I understand it, I feel like this could greatly help me in my studies and in my future job. Especially for writing papers and doing research.

  1. Hey Haley! We both chose an ELA technology standard for second grade, mine was just a little different. It was about helping students be able to figure out the meaning of an unknown words with different techniques. I agree with what you said about being proficient in internet searching, I think it is so important to be able to succeed with using any kind of technology.

  2. Hi Haley! I've also been using Microsoft word since elementary school so I feel like I would be able to teach it well too. I like how you incorporated many types of subjects into a single lesson from the CPALMS assignment. I feel like that's a good way to teach. I find it interesting that you chose reverse image searching, since I chose being able to be more specific while searching, but I see why you would say that!

  3. I like the standard you chose! I feel that it is really important for students to have technology skills, they kind of are the foundation for learning everything else. And I too have been using Microsoft Word since elementary school, and have found it to be a useful program.

Teacher pages are helpful resources that can be found on a school's website to get parents and student's information that is vital to success in the classroom. Many times, these pages have special logins that only parents and students have in order to maintain privacy in the classroom. While looking around for some different teacher pages, I found Chile's high school in Tallahassee's school website that has many helpful resources that teachers have for students. Publicly,  I could tell that this school has many different options for students when it comes to class pages and that teachers can use a variety of websites to relay information to their students. These websites, which are easily accessible from the school website, can be used in many ways for students to virtually learn, communicate, and study with their teacher outside of the classroom. Chile's High School class pages As a future educator, I can see myself incorporating a...

Before this class, I had never really used twitter. I was aware how twitter worked and had my friends show me funny tweets frequently but never thought about having a profile for myself. I haven't found twitter to be super beneficial, but it does provide some good humor from time to time. In my future career, twitter won't be a very helpful source to my students or my profession as I would like to be a speech pathologist. Unfortunately the digital divide is something that greatly affects students across the entire country and even the world. As many students do not have access to technology and as the world grows more dependent on technology, these students are falling behind. Due to this, I will need to fight for technological equality for my future students by introducing them to different  technology. This may be difficult, but if the work is put in I think I can be successful in advocating for them. Academic software can be a blessing and a curse in the classroom. Sometimes...

These past couple of weeks have been my first experiences using Diigo. I had never heard of this website before recently, and truthfully struggled in how to use the website. I like that the website allows you to easily find different links and save the ones you find useful to your library. I don't like Diigo for the set up of the site. The website is older looking and could use a facelift to make it modern and appealing to more current websites. Blogging has not been what I expected it to be. Before this class, I didn't know too much about blogs; I was not aware that blogs were customizable and that they can have different links that lead to different areas of the blog page. One of my favorite things about blogging is getting to customize each post to make it look 'cute'! However, I am not a huge fan of how each person with a blog can have them set up differently. Though unique touches are nice, sometimes it take...
