Throughout high school, I frequently found myself using Microsoft Word in order to complete assignments for various classes. I always preferred to type my papers over hand write them, so for most of my assignments and studying, I could always find myself using word to type up a paper or make a study guide. Since coming to college, I have found that nowadays I prefer Google Docs over Microsoft Word. I enjoy Google docs more because it automatically saves my processing and is easier to share with peers when working on an assignment together. Since technology has become such an important part of many group assignments that I have, using different Google platforms has been easier than Microsoft in terms of simultaneously working on a project together.
The standard that is most meaningful to me is standard 1C which states that educators should "stay current with research that supports improved student learning outcomes, including findings from the learning sciences." I believe that this standard is important because it signifies that educators are always growing and looking for opportunities to improve. It is important for educators to stay current in all aspects of learning for not only their students, but themselves. Especially in relation to technology, which is ever changing and growing, and it is important that educators keep on top of the times. To put the standard in my own words, I would that say that educators should constantly stay up to date on all topics, including research on student success, that would help aid them in the ability to better themselves and their students.
I believe that today's youth can be labeled as digital natives. To me, a digital native is someone who has grown up around technology and has a digital footprint in their life. These newer generations will never know a world without social media and touch screen phones. The difference between those who have grown up around technology (Digital natives) versus those who have not (digital immigrants) is that new versions of technology seems to come easier. The newest software updates, laptop programs, and cell phones are easily understood to the newer generations versus the old ones. Throughout middle and high school, my learning experiences were impacted by this in that many of times my classmates and I had to help my teachers understand new technology. In the fourth grade, I remember that promethium boards were introduced for the first time into my elementary school. My classmates picked up on how to use the devices fairly quickly and even had to explain to my teacher all of the different settings and how to do different tasks on it. In the future, I believe that technology will continue to grow and students will always seems to know more than teachers about new technology. This divide between students and teachers is a constant learning and bonding opportunity for both parties. Differences that I anticipate having in relation to technology is that my students will always know more than I do, and that I will always have to ask for their help.
I agree. Teachers should stay current with the new technologies. Otherwise, they always have to get helps from their students. Though you are digital natives, your students will be the generation alpha who will experience more advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality.
