Blog Journal 4

I chose to look at the second grade ELA technology standards. This means that the student should be able to write, alone or with peers, using multiple types of technology to create a story with the help of adults. If I were currently a teacher, I feel as though I could help my students achieve this standard. Microsoft Word, promethean boards, and online story book creators are areas that I am well versed in and can be used to achieve this standard. These kinds of technology are some that I have used for many years, since I was in elementary school. Having these past experiences have prepared me for not only this class, but if I had to teach others as well. After looking over the Cpalms website, I found so many interesting ideas and resources that I could use for my future classroom. I appreciated how the website was organized by grade level then subject, with subsections of the tools within each subject. I p...

Copyright, Fair use, and Technology Implementation Issues

Copyright is when someone has  protection for their intellectual property. Having copyright means that person has full rights to use and distribute the copyrighted work.  If someone else wants to use all or some of the work, they must give proper attribution and/or have to pay the copyright owner. Fair use is a part of copyright and  allows users, within reason, to copy materials for nonprofit educational purposes. This is mainly dependent on how the work is used and how much of the work is used. As a teacher, I would try to develop all of my own instructional material strictly based off of standards and try to use as little outside resources as possible. When necessary, I would try to rely on the textbook provided to my students for information and correctly site and paraphrase from it. I would encourage my students to try to create their own works without relying on the internet or textbooks. When necessary I would provide the nee...

Blog Journal 2

Throughout high school, I frequently found myself using Microsoft Word in order to complete assignments for various classes. I always preferred to type my papers over hand write them, so for most of my assignments and studying, I could always find myself using word to type up a paper or make a study guide. Since coming to college, I have found that nowadays I prefer Google Docs over Microsoft Word. I enjoy Google docs more because it automatically saves my processing and is easier to share with peers when working on an assignment together. Since technology has become such an important part of many group assignments that I have, using different Google platforms has been easier than Microsoft in terms of simultaneously working on a project together. The standard that is most meaningful to me is standard 1C which states that educators should "stay current with research  that supports improved...

Introducing me

Hi! My name is Haley and this is my third year at FSU. I am passionate about working with children and hope to work in an educational setting one day. In my free time I love spending time with my family, finding new shoes to watch on Netflix, and reading a good book! I am taking this class in order to get a minor in education. My prior experiences with technology in education include Microsoft and google primarily.  I have used excel sheets, powerpoint, word documents, and digital calendars. I have also had experience working in Canva to make presentations and flyers for classes.  To support my learning needs and goals, I frequently use the internet, my planner, and the library to help me in my educational endeavors. For specific academic classes I rely on textbooks, my professors, and google docs to help me accomplish my studying and retain information. For the majority of my classwork I find myself using online...
